Guest guest
Hello! I am new to the group and semi-new to low fat vegan eating, but not new to nutrition. For some reason I am obsessed with it! Anyway I have two questions I would like anyone's take on: I have the book Born to Run which discusses the chia seeds and how the Tarahumara use it for stamina, et. The author described that taking a tablespoon of chia seeds has the effect of consuming a combination of salmon, spinach and HGH (human growth hormone). I know he was being somewhat ficitious there but when I take chia seeds I swear that I get a similar effect of taking HGH. My appetite shoots up (considerably), I get a lot of energy and I cut muscle quickly. I am a lady too so I notice that part! I was wondering if something in the chia may enhance the building of HGH in the body. I don't necessarily like the effects it has on me because I don't like to eat more than I need, but I just thought I would throw this out there. Any thoughts? Secondly, as a low fat vegan I take a product called Purity 12 which is mainly a multivitamin but it has acidopholus in it for digestive/colon health. What are vegan perspectives on the use of acidopholus? Since eliminating animal products I don't eat yogurt or any dairy, which would typically contain the beneficial bacteria. Is acidopholus needed or detrimental to the effects of a vegan diet? Thanks for any information and the RECIPES on the www.fatfreevegan.com site are life savers. I have some of my own, do I post them here? Traci

Guest guest
I think it has more to do with how a particular substance creates an HGH-like effect in the body. In this case he eludes that consuming chia seeds is like taking HGH. I am not sure on any HGH products, never having really sought them out. , " Maynard S.
