Guest guest
I used to eat veganaise like it was going out of style and I certainly miss it! But I've changed to a good salsa or sometimes an avocado (fatty, but natural) and have come to love that most of all. The vegan bacon bits I used to love, too, but stay away from them, now. I think these things can really help when I began on the vegan path, but now, at my age, I'm letting them go by the wayside. Instead of processed, I love fresh, whole foods. Right now I'm having a smoothie with a big handful of baby spinach, about 1/4 of an avocado, and two small bananas. Yum! Also, I've learned to be careful with hummus, too. Hummus is made with tahini and for those without heart disease or weight issues, tahini is a natural food. Dr. Esselstyn has 3 great recipes for no-tahini hummus in his book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. Check them out. This cookbook became our bible when my husband was diagnosed with heart disease (which he reversed, by the way, with a no-fat vegan diet. Vegenaise is essentially pure oil, and at 12 grams of fat per tablespoon, bad juju. Oil is not a real food anyway. You might what to consider making this instead: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/dressings/vegan_mayo.shtml ...also, significantly cheaper!
