Guest guest
It may help if you look at www.nutritiondata.com. You can enter all the details of your diet and have it analysed (free) based on the USDA food database. Currently I am using it daily. I print out a list of the ingredients of my daily diet, weigh the items as I use them and enter them under the day column on the sheet. It is like a school register with the days across the top and the food list down the left. I buy nothing ready made and cook in a way that does not tend to change daily. I am still struggling to make my food really palatable and enjoyable, especially the mid day meal. The nutrition program enables me to see where I am deficient. I am finding I have to supplement with mixed tocopherols ie Vit E and Vit B but then I believe in fairly high Vit B levels and of course I am getting no B12 without supplementation. I can also see I am getting no Vit D but I supplement for 2000IU per day. I take 50mg of seaweed a day for iodine. Robin
Guest guest
I'd suggest that you try one of Dr. Fuhrman's books called "Eat to Live". Another person suggested a McDougall (starch based diet) book, but it sounds like your cravings are out of control and I had that problem too when I had too many starches in my diet. With Fuhrman, you can eat volumes of food (mostly vegetables and fruit) and still lose weight because you are eating high nutrient, low calorie food. With McDougall, you would be eating mostly starches with a few veggies thrown in, and it's those dang starches that always set off my cravings to eat more starches, whether I'm hungry or not. It doesn't matter that they are whole grain, they still do it to me. Fuhrman works best for me, but everyone is different, so McDougall may work better for you. In any case, I'd limit fats (nuts, seeds, avocado). If you want to track what nutrients you are getting to see if you are eating a balanced diet, I've had good luck with this free software called CRON-O-METER . It has a pretty decent database of foods already in it, so you just pull up what you ate and the serving size and it will calculate your daily nutrient consumption. You can also track weight in it. I love it! , "lildw16" <lildw16 wrote:>> I am having the hardest time eating. My body craves so much food ever since I stopped eating meat about 8 or 9 months ago. I am disgusted by what's in our meats, but I don't know how to eat a healthy diet. I've gone back and forth with being vegan and I feel more energized and internally healthy, but I don't know how to balance my foods and I am not ok with how I look visually. I have gained 20 lbs in the past year and I have tried everything to get it off. I no longer feel motivated to do anything about because it ends up taking over my life. I want to drop that 20lbs as well s learn more about how to balance my diet as a Vegan. I am willing for any help, suggestions, or just random conversations. Please help though!> ~Deb>
