Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Regarding your question, what I would actually recommend is that you read some of the following books -- (actually you can just find the sections that focus on protein and read the section.) I strongly recommend reading MORE THAN ONE of these books: Diet for a Small Planet (Francis Moore Lappe) (there are multiple editions -- I recommend the 10th anniversary edition -- I believe this is the one where she added additional text about the sad misunderstanding of earlier editions relative to " complete " protein) Diet for a New America (John Robbins) The McDougall Plan (John McDougall MD) Eat to Live (Joel Furhman MD) Anything by Dean Ornish -- I'm not sure which of them especially cover protein. When people ask me about protein, I often respond that I don't think it is a problem and that actually they should consider widening their concern about protein from " getting enough " to " getting to much " . This is followed by a short summary of the hazards of " too much protein " -- how this causes intense stress to process the breakdown products of protein -- which is especially hard on the kidneys. Most people don't worry about too much protein, but many of them are harmed by it. I have to say that I don't think the people I've said this to have generally gone off to research the problem of too much protein. But I haven't given up trying to refine my message LOL.. Somehow I think it is just too shocking to hear that the problem of " too little " -- the only problem many people will have heard of -- is not the only issue. I don't know how much protein I eat. I hope I'm in the " enough, but not way more than needed " camp. Obviously eating beans and greens is going to be a whole lot less toxic than eating beef and milk and eggs, but I don't actually know if I'm eating a bit too much protein -- or a bit too little, for that matter. If so, I think it is " a bit " and not " a lot " . best, Moria At 06:13 AM 4/3/2009, you wrote: >2a.
