Guest guest
Meg, Hello, I began using Dr Mcdougalls (drmcdougall.com) way of eating in early December. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia over 2 years ago and have tried various medications without success... The Mcdougall plan is plant based, no animal products whatsoever and a little soy protein allowed. But because I have sensitivities to certain foods too I am not using any soy products either. Since I began this way of eating I've lost 15lbs, brought down my blood pressure and no longer suffer from Fibromyalgia. No pain whatsoever.. I know the Fibro will always be there in the background but as I keep eating this way the better I will feel. I visited my GP today and she agrees with Dr Mcdougall, plus I've done my own research, vegan/vegetarians can get enough protein from plants such as Broccolli, Beans and Nuts.. If you don't eat soy, you can eat a few nuts or use dried beans to balance out any protein needs. *hug* Aran "Nature is the physician of man." - Hippocrates, "the father of medicine" ---- Coop 20/01/2009 4:21:17 AM Re: Newbie here Welcome! Perhaps you’ll find this helpful from Dr McDougall’s website:People worry more about protein in their diet than any other nutrient. The obvious truth is: there is enough protein in plants to grow an elephant, horse, or hippopotamus. Certainly there is enough protein to grow relatively small people. Furthermore, all plants contain all of the amino acids in proper balance for ideal human growth. In other words, it is impossible to make up a diet deficient in protein or individual amino acids from any unrefined starches (rice, potatoes) and vegetables. You must get over this common myth in order to comfortably follow a diet that is best for you and the family. The only real problems with protein come from eating too much.
