Guest guest
Hi Christina, Unless you have unusual protein needs, it is very easy to get enough protein. In fact, there are only a few ways to get deficient if you are eating adequate calories and a whole food diet. And it is also taxing to eat too much -- but that's kind of another angle. Vegetables all have some protein -- greens have a lot. Grains have some. Nuts, seeds, and beans have a lot. Legumes -- lentils and split peas, etc. Soy (all forms) has a lot but is higher fat than other beans (and you just said you don't really like beans). Tofu (made from soy beans) is especially high fat (and also lots protein and is much more processed food than soy beans). Fruit doesn't have protein to speak of. Even though you don't esp like beans, you might consider hummus (made from garbanzo beans) -- it is such a different consistency that it seems almost un-bean-like to me. I just realized I'm not answering what you asked -- you asked what **I** eat for protein. Here's what I eat regularly that is highish protein: --wheat grass juice (fresh), barley grass juice (I buy it dried and mix into water), --raw green vegetables (blended into fruit smoothie) -- parsley, spinach, collards, kale, chard, etc --cooked green vegetables -- e.g. spinach, broccoli --nuts (sliced almonds, pecans, walnuts, pine nuts) (added to salads often) --peanut butter (on celery and in sauces/dressing); almond butter --ground flax seeds and ground sesame seeds (also put into smoothie) --cooked beans (in salad or soup or chili etc.) --sprouted lentils -- mostly raw, some cooked too (this is an amazing wonderful food) --other sprouts and " soaks " -- mostly sunflower, alfalfa sprouts, soaked peanuts -- a few others. (sprouted seeds and soaked seeds/nuts have less protein than the nuts or seeds they started out as.) --avocados Occasionally: --split pea soup --soy yogurt --tofurky (fake turkey -- it's very processed and I'm sure high fat -- but I like it. I'm not recommending it as food or as fat free -- but I do eat it) --edemame (sp>) (fresh cooked soy beans) Congrats on your plan.
