Guest guest
Samantha, I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) this past June 26th. I have been a long-time believer in a vegan diet, but was unable to achieve and sustain weight loss on it before my cravings would give way to unhealthy eating. It was a viscious cycle of yo-yo-type dieting and it was hurting my health. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and a pituitary tumor (benign) that caused headaches, weight gain, trouble losing weight, depression, and insulin resistance (pre-diabetes). So, with all of this against me, WLS is supposed to heal both of these conditions enough where I can lose the weight, which then helps me recovery more fully. I decided to have the VSG because it was only a restrictive procedure, not malabsorptive, so I knew I could assimilate all of my nutrients while eating an optimal diet. Gastric Bypass causes you to not be able to utilize all of the nutrients going in and some people get deficient. Plus, you may get ill eating fruit or other higher-sugar, even though natural foods. I didn't want that because I love fruit and raw foods. That being said, I feel that a fat free vegan diet, along with any of the WLS's, for the right people, can be a good combination. As far as vegan protein drink, I always use Spirutein. Juice Plus also puts out a protein drink that is supposedly wonderful, but it is multi-level marketing. Also, the new protein supplement, Vega (www.myvega.com) is supposed to be awesome, but is expensive. I don't work for any of these. Sorry to be mostly off-topic, but I wanted to chime in. Anyone can email me privately for more information on WLS and a vegan diet. rgosky Becky - Samantha Who? I know fat free vegan is the best choice for long term weight loss and health. But at first it will be hard to keep my nutrient levels stable and I have to drink protein drinks and vitamins and minerals. Is there a vegan protein drink out there?
