Guest guest
I did it... I bought tempeh, and it looks weird. It's all weird looking and stuff. It's vacuum sealed. My book "Vegan with a Vengeance" says with some liquid smoke I can make "tempeh bacon". Hmmm... what else can I use it for cause it's kinda freaking me out the way it looks...lol. here's the tempeh bacon recipe... has anyone tried it? It says it won't fool meat-eaters but will fully satisfy us herbivores. 3 tbsp Bragg Liquid Amino's or tamari or soy sauce (use the very low salt one for better health) 1/3 cup apple cider 1 tsp tomato paste 1/4 tsp liquid smoke 1 (8 oz) pkg tempeh 2 crushed garlic cloves 2 tbsp peanut or veg oil. (this is to obviously fry the strips in, so I would just use some sort of cooking spray like "Pam" instead so these things fry up and we don't add in the fat like a real peace of bacon would have *ugh*). Mix everything together for the marinade (except tempeh). Cut the tempeh into thin strips (less than 1/4 inch lengthwise). Should get about 12 strips. Put the strips in the marinadefor at least and hour and up to overnight.... turn occasionally. After marinating, discard the garlic. "Fry" up the strips on med heat for 4 mins on one side til nicely browned and then flip. Add the remainder of marinade over the strips. Cover and let cook for 3 more mins until liquid is absorbed... kepp cooking if needed til both sides are browned. I don't know, what do you think? Who wants to be brave and make this and give us a testimonial? Also, please share any other really good tempeh recipes, cause I think the package is staring at me. And it's freaking me out. Guest guest
Amie, I haven't used that exact recipe, but I've heard a lot of people say that it's very good. My tempeh bacon recipe is here: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/08/tlt-sandwiches.html . It's similar to Isa's, and I like it. Here are some links to some of my other favorite tempeh recipes: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2008/07/golden-potato-and-tempeh-casserole.html http://veganconnection.com/recipes/tempeh.htm Susan -------------Susan VoisinFatFree Vegan Kitchenhttp://blog.fatfreevegan.com------------- - AmieJPMS Tuesday, July 15, 2008 7:10 PM ok I did it...
