Vegan gravy is so easy to make, and so good.

Take a couple yellow onions and dice them, saute them until carmalized. Throw in some diced mushrooms and saute for another minute, add some soy sauce, white pepper, and flour. It gets really sticky and dense. Then just add water to make it gravy consistancy. Throw that bad boy on some vegan masjed potatoes and enjoy. Non vegans love this recipe and can't believe it's vegan. Mmmmmm! Sounds soooo good!

Thx fer the recipe!

Yer last line reminds me of the Country Crock commercial, but instead

of " I can't believe it's not butter "

we have

" I can't believe it's not animal "

nikki :)

Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get with this cooking stuff...I've never been a good cook, and I've been vegan for only a little over 1/2 yr...So it's an eniter new thing to me, haha.Surya Burdick <californiagnomes wrote:

Ya, add the flour slowly and not too much, it can "over thicken". Keep trying! :) (And if it does overthicken next time try adding more water and or soy sauce, or red wine. Thanks for the gravy recipe. Unfortunately, I am a veggie who

doesn't like mushrooms...most gravy recipes use them and aren't

right with out them. I can't wait to try this one!!

Question...TSP, same as TVP? Same as morningstar crumbles, et al??

Yes M,

It's now called textured soy protein rather than TVP because it is

accurate now. Not everyone uses soy products especially if not

fermented like miso and tempeh. If this be the case, there are

wheat based meat substitutes to get the desired texture of the

gravy. I can only tell you that my brother who runs a meat market

loved my gravy as well as the rest of my family and friends.

Though i like fresh chantrells, I am not a fan of mushrooms and

don't include them in recipes.

Will look forward to hearing feedback after u try it. If anyone has

further questions, you may email me. I have a couple other

personal recipes but this one is popular. I go for a somewhat

thick gravy but a consistancy that works with potatoes or rice. If

you like it hot you can add a touch of cayanne... i dont use black

pepper. ds

This is an awesome gravy recipe, I think it is from McDougall. Fantastic on baked or mashed potatoes, or rice, in shepherd's pie (vegan of course :-)

Creamy Golden Gravy

1-1/2 C vegetable broth

1/2 C water

1/4 C soy sauce/ tamari

2 Tbs tahini

1/3 C brown rice flour

black pepper to taste

Place broth and water in saucepan. Combine soy sauce and tahini, mix well, add to broth. Bring to a boil, stirring well. Sprinkle flour on top, 1 Tbs at a time, stirring in. Continue stirring until thickened; season with pepper.

Delicious!
