Guest guest
There's a article about Dr. Esselstyn of note just published: http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2008/06/exsurgeon_caldwell_esselsty\ n_e.html A snippet: " " Every forkful of fat, " he says, causes an immediate biochemical assault on the endothelium, the lining of the arteries. White blood cells collect there, gobbling up bad cholesterol and creating fatty deposits over time. " For many people, especially those who smoke or have other risk factors, accumulation of plaque is a time bomb for a coronary event. " For those new to this list, Essy's 20 years of peer-reviewed research shows that a no added fat vegan diet can reverse (and most likely help prevent) heart disease. Dr. Ornish demonstrated the same thing in his own independent studies. Here's the interview I did with him last year, shortly after my father suffered his first heart disease-related event. As such, I was driven to " hit " him with every argument I could think of: http://www.madcowboy.com/02_MCIview05.000.html As noted in my blog post about this, I've been following his recommendations for 16 to 17 months now, and I have, indeed, lost my taste/desire for fat (took about 12 or 14 weeks, hard to pin it down exactly). I'd already done the same thing for sugary sweet stuff many years ago. It can be done, and I truly appreciate all that Susan V.'s done with her websites and blogs to help get the word out. Best regards to all, Mark http://www.soulveggie.com
Guest guest
Thanks for the article, Mark. Do you know if there has been a similar study done where the fat is from a few ounces of raw walnuts or other raw nuts? I eat a few ounces of nuts a day because if I go totally fat-free, my heart skips beats and it's very unsettling. The nuts do an amazing job keeping my heart beats regular. I don't have oils at home, but occasionally ingest it in social situations (someone else's house or a restaurant, etc.), and I'm willing to stop that, but not convinced I should give up the nuts. -barb On Jun 11, 2008, at 10:16 AM, Mark Sutton wrote: > There's a article about Dr. Esselstyn of note just published: > http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2008/06/ > exsurgeon_caldwell_esselstyn_e.html > > A snippet: > > " " Every forkful of fat, " he says, causes an immediate biochemical > assault on the endothelium, the lining of the arteries.
