Guest guest
Day 7, Friday, 4/18/08 Rough evening today. Between a not-great day at work and the commercials on television, I was really craving something fried. :-) I just ate more snacks. Making sure I'm not hungry can calm the cravings. Pulse: 75 Took thyroid meds?: Yes Other meds: None Walk miles: 1 Symptoms: Mild joint aches; skin is still a little oily; mild heart palpitations Planned food: B: Sweet potatoes; fruit L: Hummus sandwich D: Chili-mac, salad S: Fruit, cut-up veggies, homemade popsicles, toast Actual food: B: Sweet potatoes w/ketchup, popsicle L: Sandwich with chana dal spread (recipe below) and tomatoes D: Rice noodles with spinach, garlic, thai chili sauce, and soy sauce S: Bananas, oranges, carrots, leftovers from lunch, raw cashews, kavli with honey mustard, barbecued seitan Chana Dal Spread 1 cup cooked chana dal (garbanzos will probably work fine) juice of 1 lemon 1 garlic clove 1 teaspoon dried parsley (or 1 tablespoon fresh/minced) Blend until the consistency you like. I like mine smooth. Also, this doesn't have the silkiness that it would if there were tahini or oil in it, so if you wanted to, you could add something for a chunkier texture, or add some tahini, or whatever. I'm pretty sure it would taste more interesting with some salt added, but it's fine without, so I didn't add any.

It's tasty, but the more I read about dal (including its unbelievable glycemic index of 8!) the more I want to try it. So I've located some mail-order sources and will be getting some. I'm very excited to try it and wanted to tell you that your post was the inspiration that finally moved me to do something to get some.
