That was a joke, a steamer rigged up by Letterman's people so it *would*

explode as a gag. I read that Letterman (and Howard Stern) always pull

tricks like that on Richard Simmons.

How unkind!

 

However, that's part of why I don't have television. I don't have the

proper temperament to enjoy most of what's on it and I'm too gullible

to be safe watching much of it.

I didn't know it was a joke, either, until a few weeks later. My son

sent me the YouTube link showing it, I mentioned it on a Richard Simmons

list and like you cautioned people against buying the product, and was

lambasted by his " Webbies " (members of the paid Clubhouse section of his

web site) and told it was a gag. After that, when I did see the steamer

for sale at the mall at almost half the price his site was selling it, I

grabbed it. It's worth the price just to make those sausages!
