Guest guest
Hi gentle folks: Reading the messages on this thread has been therapeutic, touching and educational because I share so many of the experiences. My belief is that that the indifference to the suffering of other sentient beings is part of a broader societal pattern that manifests itself in attitudes toward capital punishment, pre-emptive war, conspicuous consumption, imperialism, materialism, global warming, equal rights, the capital vs working class struggle and other maladies. My biological family have always been on the opposite side of the 'culture wars' from me, and I have always struggled in similar ways as you all to find some accommodation. Always feeling more comfortable among those who live truly examined lives and who care about others like those on this email thread, I wish all of you pleasant Holidays and hope that we can carry on in the New Year as an activist community. Thanks for these thoughts. Please keep 'em coming. -terry in Santa Clara
Guest guest
I love what Terry wrote about feeling more comfortable among those who lead examined lives. That is a great description of how it feels to talk to someone who's vegetarian - it means that the person has given deep thought to a big, public part of his life, and decided to go against the herd, in favor of compassion. This holiday season I feel especially grateful for everyone at BAveg - thank you for being here and providing the inspiration and community which nurtures us all. Warmly, Jessica Hope Woodside
