Guest guest
Hi all, I'm a volunteer at the Oakland Animal Shelter. We are trying to spread the word as much as possible about the planned closure of the shelter this month, please read below and help spread the word!! OAKLAND ANIMAL SHELTER BEING FORCED TO CLOSE DOWN FOR 10 DAYS DURING CHRISTMAS DUE TO BUDGET CUTS! SPEAK OUT FOR OAKLAND ANIMALS! DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO THEM Dear Neighbors & Friends of Oakland: If the Oakland Animal Shelter is forced to close it's doors for 10 days here is what will follow: • Euthanasia of adoptable animals will significantly increase as the shelter exceeds full capacity almost instantly! (Don't forget the shelter's stated policy of making all efforts to avoid euthanasia.) • There would be no ability for the public to look for/redeem lost animals during this period, adopt animals, and properly surrender animals, which means the shelter would reach full capacity almost immediately! • As our after-hours intake cages (only 8 in total) would be filled all day, citizens may leave injured/surrendered animals in danger on the street, police officers would have nowhere to leave animals picked up. • With no field service, increases in costs for outside veterinary services • Closure would cost Oakland MORE $$$$ due to backlogged service resulting in overtime immediately following the shutdown. Please send an urgent email to Dan Lindheim, Budget Director at the Mayor's Office at dlindheim, and/or call at (510) 238-6840 or contact your city council members. Also contact: Police Chief: Chief Wayne G. Tucker (510) 238-3365 wtucker
