Participate in/Sponsor the Walk for the Farm Animals with the Bay Area Vegetarians Team

Hi Everyone

 

Many animals raised for food cannot walk. Chickens who lay eggs are crammed into cages so small that they don't have space to lift one wing, much less walk. Pigs and veal calves are confined in narrow pens.

 

 

The SF Walk for Farm Animals is an annual event which supports Farm Sanctuary's http://www.walkforf armanimals. org rescue and protection campaigns.

 

"The Tender Piglets" is the team name for the Bay Area Vegetarians this year. All funds go directly to Farm Sanctuary (Bay Area Vegetarians is participating as a team in the event; we do not receive any funding from this effort.)

Time: Registration 10:30 a.m., Walk 11:00 am

Location: 1 Ferry Building

Note about the team title: I've gotten some feedback about the team name and some love it, others don't, so I've kept it in the end. Other suggestions were: Victorious Vegans, Rescue Rangers, Voracious Vegans, and Animals Are Friends, Not Food. In the end I decided to keep "The Tender Piglets" (having switched back from "The Freedom Loving Tender Piglets") because I do think the name captures the gentle adorableness and innocence of the baby piglets and through them the plight of billions of farm animals raised for food around the world each year.

 

I hope many of us on the and SFBaVeg email listings will sign up with The Tender Piglets team, and if not, will sign up as individuals or under a different team name. But please do consider The Tender Piglets and I hope we raise $$$ for the Farm Sanctuary.
