Guest guest
As a reminder, please consider helping local gay animal advocates to protest frivolous animal cruelty at the Bay Area Gay Rodeo - whether you're queer or not. This is the first year in the rodeo's history that a protest has been organized (to my knowledge, though I know Warren has campaigned against it many years ago) - and I've put a lot of time, work and money into it - so I'd love to start off with a bang and make a big impact on the community! The event is very easy to get to (Castro & 18th), and will only last 1 1/2 hrs. or so. Please see the following links for more information and to RSVP: http://www.bayareaveg.org/rsvp.htm?id=1945 http://www.bayareaveg.org/rsvp.htm?id=1955 Thanks! Guest guest
Eric, Thanks for the history, I had no idea there'd been any previous organized protest activity. But I've only been involved in activism a little over 2 years (though I've been veg*n for the animals for almost 20). Warren says that 10 years ago he tried to put up posters in businesses and was met with a great deal of hostility. However, last year, a friend & I did a last-minute demo with a little sign and fliers that went pretty well (and the rodeo people "steer" quite clear of us). This year, we have more people and a bunch of nice, big signs - we won't be missed! Again, I hope to see more support at our 8/2 and 8/9 protests from local animal advocates, both queer and non-queer. With a little effort, we can put an end to this ridiculous animal abuse and embarrassment to the gay community! Look for Letters to the Editors from us, in next Thursday's editions of the Bay Area Reporter and The Bay Times. Also, here's an interesting article about PETA's investigation of the 2007 Chicago Gay Rodeo: http://www.wctimes.com/gay/lesbian/news/ARTICLE.php?AID=16040 Andrew > Fri, 1 Aug 2008 17:18:19 -0700> afa andy94103 CC: ; qvssf ; baarn > Re: [baarn] Reminder: Please help protest Gay Rodeo 8/2, 8/9> > Good for you, Andrew, for taking this on.
