Guest guest
I highly recommend Saha. It is an Arabic fusion restaurant -- Yemeni foods blended with California cuisine -- in the Hotel Carlton on Sutter in SF. The interior is lovely, the service excellent, and the menu -- which you can view online at http://www.sahasf.com/index.html -- has several vegetarian selections in each category. While not a strictly veg establishment, the menu states that most vegetarian dishes can be made vegan; it also emphsizes their commitment to local, organic, sustainable agriculture. Even the takeout containers are biodegradable, as is the bag they come in. I recently took my girlfriend there for her birthday, and it was wonderful. They have a table in the back corner which can be curtained off for privacy. Even without that, though, the ambience is quite romantic. The prices are too high for me for everyday fare, but quite reasonable for the occasional celebration. (The vegetarian prix fixe dinner is $30 apiece for a choice of small plate, salad and entree.) Each dish they brought, from the complimentary bread and dipping sauce, to the locally bought tea was mouthwatering. We kept dreaming of coming back with a half-dozen friends so that we could have the opportunity to taste everything. This is a very good restaurant. The flavors are rich, but the food is light. So, happy anniversary to the one who made this request (I accidentally erased your post already) and I hope you enjoy your celebratory dinner, wherever you end up going.
