Guest guest
Hello, Valiant Vigilers and All Advocates for Animals! Am sorry to say there was no vigil for animals in June at UCSF, though I hope to organize one for July - will keep you posted. Wish I had some really great news about animals used in experiments at UCSF - like, the university is abandoning its abusive exploitation of nonhuman animals for a truly valid and humane research program. Yet the only good news I have is that a rhesus monkey (called Harry) has "escaped" the clutches of UCSF's experimental protocols and now resides (more happily, I am sure) at Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary www.mindysmem.org/ . Hooray for him!!! Yet as I write this, thousands of monkeys and millions of other animals are not so lucky as they continue to suffer the deprivation of laboratory animal life in universities across the nation. In that regard you might want to read a great article by Michael Budkie, who heads Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN), at www.all-creatures.org/saen/articles-20080613.html . I hope you have the courage (or whatever it takes) to read it through; it left me with the feeling that there is always something one can do to stop (or at least try to stop or diminish) the exploitation of our fellow beings incarcerated in research labs. No matter what, there is always something you can do - and you don't need to apply for a license for free speech (not yet, anyway). I say we must, and we shall, persevere on behalf of those animals - we cannot forsake them. As for myself, I shall persevere in exposing the truth on these matters. In any case, I sincerely wish you all a happy summer! Bob O'Brien
