why won't the green party use the " v " word!?!?

they say " sustainable agriculture " and the majority of candidates i

have met are not even vegetarian. grrrrrrr. this is as irritating as

buddhists (do no harm) who still eat animals. grrrrrrr.

the green party needs to veg'nize itself...

I'm in the San Francisco Green Party myself, and am a vegetarian turned vegan. I conduct an animal advocacy working group along (I've sent emails about it) with another vegan. Maybe I should defend the non-vegetarian SF Greens since I'm also a member of the same political party, but in reality I don't feel very close to them myself. When we first started this animal advocacy working group, many of them freaked. They thought it was too radical, and begged us not to become "another Earth First." Before I started this group, I was more active with the SF Greens mainly because of Matt Gonzalez, who's always been sympathetic to animal rights and I think is a vegan himself. But ever since I found out their true attitude towards animal rights, I've distanced myself from them. I don't think my vegan co-chairman is close to many of them either, although I will ask him.I think this conflict may be partly a generation thing (I'm sure it's not the only reason). Many of the SF Greens are older, and are leftover 60s radicals, and most left-wing people of this type cannot relate to animal rights. In my opinion. they're simply out of touch with the times, and their thinking is obsolete and irrelevant.Interestlngly, Matt Gonzalez does not have much to do withe San Francisco Green Party himself, even though (I think until recently) he was a Green himself, and hasn't for a long time. And at least several SF Greens are bitter because of this. I've heard them complain about it.I've also heard that there are other Green Party chapters who don't get along with the San Francisco Greens. I wonder if this is one reason. On Apr 21, 2008, at 7:14 PM, amylynncaplan wrote:why won't the green party use the "v" word!?!?they say "sustainable agriculture" and the majority of candidates ihave met are not even vegetarian. grrrrrrr. this is as irritating asbuddhists (do no harm) who still eat animals. grrrrrrr.the green party needs to veg'nize itself...amy in pacifica
