Guest guest
With year-round resident birds, as well as 1.6 million waterfowl and many species of imperiled songbirds who migrate along the coastline, San Francisco is a treasure trove of biological diversity. However, it is also one of the few Bay Area counties without a wildlife hospital. Presently, injured or orphaned birds must be transferred to clinics out-of-county, often involving delays which decrease the birds' chances of survival. But we now have a golden opportunity to help San Francisco's injured, orphaned, sick and oiled wildlife! The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is holding a public hearing to determine future land use around Lake Merced with two publicly-proposed scenarios for people to comment on: A Wildlife Hospital and Nature Education Center (including picnic areas, bird and butterfly gardens and more), and boating facilities (new use) Gun Club skeet and trap shooting (existing) and boating facilities Public opinion will be critical the decision as to whether a wildlife care and nature education center at Lake Merced will be established. Your voice is needed, so please attend the hearing where proposals will be discussed. What: Public Utilities Commission meeting to determine possible new land uses at Lake MercedWhen: Tuesday, April 22nd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Where: Sunset Community Center, 2201 Lawton Street (at 28th Avenue), San Francisco (http://tinyurl.com/44gp96)
