Guest guest
Hi All, My husband and I are thinking of taking a trip to Italy and maybe France. Does anyone have recommendations for vegetarian friendly travel services, places to visit, etc? Guest guest
My wife and I spent some time touring Italy last spring, and we spent a week in Paris in 2006. There are a lot of options for vegetarians in both France and Italy. Paris has several vegetarian restaurants. My favorite was Aquarius in the 14th district, followed by Le Grenier de Notre Dame in the Latin Quarter near Notre Dame Cathedral. My wife had also found a little natural food shop with a vegan lunch counter in the 14th, but I can't remember the name. It's easy to be vegetarian, but hard to be strictly vegan in Italy due to all the cheese, but there are vegan options if you look around. I love the small towns in Italy much more than the cities, so we rented a car and drove around. We stayed at a fantastic all-vegetarian bed & breakfast called Country House Montali in the Umbria countryside. And even though we only knew a few phrases in Italian, everywhere we went we were able to tell people that we were vegetarian, and the restaurants always accommodated us. We spent one night in the beach town of Vasto. It was too early for tourists, so most of the restaurants were closed, but an older couple asked us what we were looking for and we managed to tell them that we were vegetarians. They didn't quite understand, so they called an English speaking friend on their cellphone and we had an interesting semi-translated conversation. They ended up leading us to a seafood restaurant, but they explained everything to the waitress and we ended up having a five course all-vegetarian meal including a bottle of wine for about 15 Euros. If you're staying to the bigger cities, you should still be able to find food. We found an all-veg restaurant in Bologna and even a gelato shop in Florence that had a couple of varieties of gelato made with rice or soy. Enjoy your trip! -Rob , SaveABunny wrote: > > > Hi All, > My husband and I are thinking of taking a trip to Italy and maybe France. > Does anyone have recommendations for vegetarian friendly travel services, places > to visit, etc? > > Thanks, > Marcy Schaaf > Founder, SaveABunny > _www.saveabunny.org_ (http://www.saveabunny.org/) > 415-388-2790 > " A New Generation of Rabbit Rescue " > Save A Bunny.
