Guest guest
Your Letters to Supervisors and SF Chronicle Needed Now! San Francisco takes first step toward helping animals at Zoo Last night the San Francisco Animal Control and Welfare Commission passed a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors calling for major changes in direction and focus of San Francisco Zoo. Now the Supervisors need to hear from Bay Area citizens to show widespread support for improving the zoo and setting a new standard in the way that zoos keep and treat animals. 1. Please email the San Francisco Board of Supervisors encouraging them to implement the Commission’s recommendation to transition the City-owned zoo to a rescue facility that prioritizes animal welfare and offers a refuge to exotic and other animals in need. Please express your support for the rescue-zoo proposal and urge the Board to hold prompt and independent hearings on this urgent matter. Below are some points you can use in you message. Urge the Board to: Create a Board-appointed “Zoo Oversight Commission” mandated to ensure animal welfare at the zoo; Develop bigger, better and safer enclosures for the animals Establish a policy that prohibits the zoo from acquiring new animals until the conditions for all current animals are substantially improved. Commit to taking care of animals for life instead of shuffling them around from zoo to zoo. Please send your email to Board.of.Supervisors 2. Also, please write a brief letter to the editor supporting the rescue zoo proposal. Letters to the Editor should be addressed to letters, must be 250 words or less, and must include your name and telephone number.
