Guest guest
Happy 2008! Yvonne recently posted a question about vegan eating and Team Vegan. Yes…the training includes information about what to eat. Each week Marathon Matt sends out an e-mail to team members with the weekly training schedule and tips about eating, stretching, finding good shoes, etc. He is also available by e-mail to answer individual questions. I will be including a recipe in each of Marathon Matt’s e-mails. I’ll be choosing recipes that are vegan, healthy, easy to make (super important since we’ll be spending more time getting active and less time in the kitchen!) and inexpensive. In addition, keep in mind that Team Vegan is a fund-raiser for Vegan Outreach. Vegan Outreach was founded by three truly fabulous people, one of whom (Jack Norris) is a registered dietician and an athlete himself. Here’s some of his information: http://www.veganhealth.org/articles/athletes http://veganhealth.org/ Last but not least, your team members will be a great source of ideas. This was a part of the training that I enjoyed the most last fall. Your team-mates may be brand new runners and/or brand new veg*ns, and thus not experts on the subjects, but they WILL be experts on sharing new recipes, restaurants, energy foods, and healthy snacks that they find. I never would have discovered the joy of Double Espresso Gu if not for my team-mate Mari, and for that I am forever in her debt. I also learned about the best strap-on water bottle, pre-run breakfast, place to buy cheap athletic socks, music to run to and whether or not to wear underwear in an ice bath from my team-mates. All that useful info came from a non-veg team, so I can’t wait for the veg-focused Team Vegan!
