Guest guest
Royal Caribbean or Royal Pain in The Ass?Royal Caribbean recently denied our request for a vegan accommodation aboard their Mexican cruise line. And although I would have no problem fasting for the six day Mexican cruise, my two small children would not fare as well on such a diet.I've never been on a cruise before, nor had any desire to do so, but my father-in-law bought our entire family tickets to celebrate his 75th birthday. When I called to inquire about the food, I was told that they "make ever effort to accommodate vegetarians, like offering veggie egg omelets for breakfast or cheese lasagna for dinner." There is no soy milk or board, they have "2% milk, fat-free milk or lactose-free milk." When I inquired about bringing my own food, and whether they would allow me to use their refrigerator to store such items as soy milk or soy yogurt, I was told "NO" unless there was a medical necessity for the refrigeration, like insulin if I were diabetic. In a rebuttal, I had this note faxed from my doctor's office, stating:To Whom It May Concern:I am writing on behalf of my patient, Liam. He and his parents are traveling on a cruise. He has significant reactions to dairy products and therefore, drinks soy milk. The parents will need special accommodations in order to refrigerate his drinks while on the cruise. If a refrigerator for their room could be provided for them, it would be much appreciated. Sincerely yours,Liam's lovely doctor (who shale remain anonymous)Thank God for Liam's protein-dairy allergy, or we would be up a creek without a paddle, so to speak. Now I just need to figure out how to get our food items (along with our luggage and all of our Christmas gifts) on the boat.Wondering if anyone has any tips . . .~Cay
Guest guest
That is really too bad. We went on a Princess Cruise over the summer to Alaska. They were extremely accommodating. We could order food in one of the restaurants the day before, and they would prepare it for us for the next evening's meal. Their buffet had a lot of vegan choices. And they did have soy milk if you asked for it. We were really thrilled when we requested a vegan dessert and they made us a chocolate cake! I would highly recommend Princess Cruises!
