Guest guest
I wanted to follow up w/an alternative to Heifer Internationaal. I founded the Foundation for Sustainable Development in 1995--FSD currently works in 8 countries in Latin America, Africa, and India supporting community development initiatives. Before I stepped down as Executive Director last year, I made sure the Board of Directors approved a value statement about living creatures, as well as pass a vote that ensured our grantmaking that did not harm or exploit animals so that FSD did not become another Heifer International. I remain on the Board of Directors. It's not front and center on our website, but you can find the animal value statement under about FSD and our grantwriting packet clearly says that FSD will not fund grants that support animal husbandry projects or projects that harm or exploit animals. I think we are the only international development organization in the world working on community development with this explicit policy. Our website is www.fsdinternational.org. As long as I'm on board, I will do everything in my power to ensure FSD supports only animal friendly community development efforts. Happy Holidays, Alicia
