Guest guest
Hi Janice, Urban areas always have large populations of omnivorous scavengers like opossums and raccoons. They travel around their neighborhoods and sleep in trees so most likely the ones you saw (fat and strong) were on their way somewhere. Raccoon relocation is not very successful and the only way you could trap and relocate them would be to know that they were always in a certain area and to use live traps and then take them far away. At which point they would continue their current lifestyle. Most likely they'd find a way back to their home. You can't take urban animals and plop them into a natural setting like on Mt. Tam and expect them to do very well. Thanks for your concern about them but they should do pretty well as long as they don't get hit by a car.
