Guest guest
Hi all, Check out today's Style section in the Chron. There's an article about the Vegan Vixens (along with a huge photo): " No to meat, but yes to skin. " It's a cute article about sexy vegan girls hanging out at the Playboy Mansion and reaching out to Howard Stern listeners. This is a crowd most of us will never reach, so good for them. I had to do a double take when I saw the article right beneath " No to meat. " It's about a new butcher shop run by women in Bernal Heights (along with a smaller photo of women happily cutting meat): " Female butchers cut to the chase. " I'm wondering what the person in charge of the layout was thinking. The articles almost look like they're supposed to go together. This sends such a confusing message to people who are thinking about going vegetarian. Here are the articles: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artlist.cgi?key=LV & directory=/c/a/2007/11/18 If you'd like to write the Chron, go here: http://www.sfgate.com/feedback/ -Rose
Guest guest
"It's about a new butcher shop run by women in Bernal Heights"The article points out that one of these women was a vegetarian up to 2003, then she couldn't resist some duck skin at a cooking class - now she is a butcher. Maybe the Chronicle wanted to balance out the piece on the Vixens, but I wonder how many times they've featured meat with no vegetarian balance?tonyOn Nov 18, 2007, at 11:33 AM, Rose Aguilar wrote:Hi all,Check out today's Style section in the Chron. Guest guest
Rose, I had the exact same reaction; I found it almost insulting! Also, to add insult to injury, I skimmed the article on female butchers, since I am interested in all food businesses, and had to read that one of the 3 women is a " former vegetarian " . (!)
