Guest guest
Hi, everyone. I live in the East Bay, and downstairs from a woman who has slowly but surely abandoned her two young cats. I believe they were a gift (as kittens) to her young daughter and just recently she stopped feeding them and has simply left them outside with no way in.I asked her weeks ago if she was feeding them and she said she was, but her daughter later told me they had used " the last of the food. " What?? I contacted the local humane society and they said I could catch them and bring them in, but they could not come and search for them or penalize the owner because it is too hard to prove ownership. I guess it's my word against hers, and she has already lied to our homeowners association about the matter, saying she gave her cats away long ago. Well, here they are, outside our building, as recently as an hour ago, still together, clearly indoor cats with no collars, tags or place to call home. I imagine they are about two years old if she's had them for about that long and they were small kittens when she got them. Instead of wasting my energy trying to get her in trouble (Lord knows she deserves it!), I thought I would check with people on the list to see if anyone is looking for a couple of seemingly affectionate house cats. They are always together; so I suppose they would be happiest if they stayed together. I don't want to take them to the shelter because they are adult cats now and even the kitten I once took to them was swiftly killed within days. They really don't keep them long. Anyone interested in giving them a home? Please let me know. Thanks, Tonya

Feral Cat Foundation has a website - http://www.feralcatfoundation.org/; also Community Concern for Cats - http://www.communityconcernforcats.org/ . I am sure there are others, too. But please don't leave them out there to be killed by cars, dogs, other cats and disease. If you take them to a shelter, take them to an SPCA or Humane Society, rather than to one called animal control. (Animal controls/shelters are often run by police departments rather than animal people.) There is no guarantee that a shelter will find them a home, of course. There are so many cats out there, it is always difficult to find homes. Good luck with this. Karen
