KFC Stamps

Tammy had indicated that KFC is trying to get the US Postal Service to

create a stamps for their 20th anniversary. I emailed the US Postal -

they indicated they need to get response via snail mail (I'm guessing

to utilize more stamps to support them). So, if you want to help stop

Colonel Sanders stamps - please write.

 

I think it is important to talk not only about animal issues, but to

mention stamps have been typically used to salute history and support

non-profits. Stamps should not be used as an advertising gimmick.

And it really is just a sad situation that US postal would support a

company that is causing heart disease and obesity and violence just

because the US Postal may make a profit.

I think it's unfair to characterize their request for

a response in writing as a ploy to sell more stamps.

They already deliver 500 million letters per day; the

don't _need_ the extra $0.40 .

 

The fact of the matter is, email is easy to duplicate

(as I'm sure you've noticed with the spam; you don't

think there's a human sitting somewhere clicking away,

sending spam, is there?). So email responses are

usually inflated and not accurate. Only the people who

feel deeply about an issue are going to sit down and

write a letter.

 

Secondly, postal mail has a certain legal status that

email doesn't. When they have to document a case

for/against a stamp proposal, having the documentation

is necessary. They have a certain process that's

probably been followed for 150 years, and that's what

they use.

 

Having been supported by USPS grants for my

dissertation and post-doc research, I do feel a

certain loyalty to them. But objectively speaking,

most of the postal employees I've known have been the

most conscientious and customer-focused people I've

ever known.

Sorry for the confusion on my joke. It was only intended to make

people laugh a little. If you know me I try to lighten the mood. It

doesn't always pan out in email form.

 

The focus of my email was to indicate if anyone would like to join in

the efforts to stop the request from KFC - please send a written request.
