Guest guest
As far as I am aware, the only mainstream movie to date with veganism & animal rights as the primary theme is " Year of the Dog " (www.yearofthedogmovie.com), starring SNL alumnus Molly Shannon. It was recently released on DVD, and I strongly encourage anyone who has not yet seen this excellent film to go out and rent it. It wasn't a long interview but it got me thinking that someone could make a great feature film with a veg*n theme. I don't mean a documentary or an animated movie for kids, but an adult drama. The veg*n theme could be somewhat secondary to the story and therefore, perhaps, not scare off producers. It could still stimulate interest in veg*nism. With so much interest in human rights, environment and health, I can't help thinking the time is ripe for such a film. I know nothing about the industry but I would love to be part of a discussion about the possibility of such an undertaking. I'm sure there's been lots of discussion but where to find it?Sammy
Guest guest
I saw Year of the Dog and my feelings were quite conflicted, not in terms of how the film is made (it's a good film) but in terms of how filmgoers might think of vegans after seeing the film. Can't go into detail because that would give away some of the plot, but I would be very interested in hearing other veg*ns' reactions to it. (My coworker, who is vegetarian, but not vegan, saw it and he had the same feelings I did.) Nadine May
Guest guest
Mat & Nadine & All, Yes, I saw the movie Year of the Dog and really loved it but was also afraid how vegans were portrayed. Not so convinced it was vegan positive, even though it was endorsed and, I think, supported, by a few prominent vegans. I'd actually be interested in hearing the thoughts of non-vegans who've seen it.
