Guest guest
On Saturday, Josh D, Miranda, Sue R and I leafleted at the Rock the Bells concert near AT & T Park. We leafleted from about 2:30 pm to 11 pm. This was billed as a hip hop concert and included very large names including Public Enemy, The Roots, The Wu Tang Clan, and the newly-reconstituted Rage Against the Machine. Together, we distributed at least 3,400 copies of Vegan Outreach's Even If You Like Meat brochure.During the early afternoon, many people (like us) arrived mid-concert, in time to catch the large acts. The crowd was surprisingly resistant to leafleting, perhaps due to the preponderance of scalpers and other leafleters on the street. However, there were so many people we were able to distribute brochures at a good rate. Josh D and Miranda leafleted the people coming into the concert while I waited back a bit, running support and leafleting those who had been missed. I saw lots of people reading the booklet and heard many conversations about vegetarianism. On many occasions throughout the day, people would initially refuse the pamphlet, then, after seeing or hearing what it was about, would come back and ask for a copy.Sue arrived, bearing a carload of leaflets, just in time for Miranda and me to enjoy Public Enemy's set from across the cove.Late afternoon through mid-evening, foot traffic slowed significantly. As the concert ended, however, a gigantic rush of people flooded the streets. We stood our ground firmly, offering information so others could make the same choice to resist the flow. We leafleted as quickly as we were physically able, yet there were still more concertgoers than could be reached by just the four of us. Never have I leafleted to such a large flow of people; at one point I looked down the street and the entire block was full of people, packed in tightly, sidewalk to sidewalk. Even leafleting among such a large crowd, I found people would come back and ask for a pamphlet after seeing what it was about. Many thanks to Sue for leafleting at the concert while attending two other leafleting events that day. Many thanks to Josh for providing material support and a pair of very capable leafleting hands. And a special thank you to Miranda, who moved to the Bay Area three weeks ago and has hit the ground running with her dedicated, caring, active effort to end the suffering of all beings.Victor TsouVegan Outreach Shape in your own image.
