Guest guest
>It just seems that with corporations being so profit-driven, that showing>them a way to reduce their expenses should be of interest to them. But I am>not aware of any group currently working this angle. It seems intuititve, however there are several factors involved. First, from the point of view of cafeterias and food providing places generally, veggie eating is not necessarily cheaper. Although per pound vegetables are cheaper than some meats, the don't store as well and vegans etc demand their vegetables fresh. With meat you can buy 100 pounds of ground beef or chicken or whatever and just throw it in a freezer. Turning to the health insurance side of the question, no insurance company I am aware of gives a discount to firms who promote healthy eating among their employees. btw: I was at the CaliforniaSpeaks event yesterday to get public input of health care reform and you'll be happy to know that incentives and discounts for healthy lifestyles (which presumably includes eatig more fruits and vegetables) had a large constituency. -Dave
