Leafletting at Stern Grove FELT SO GOOD!

Adrienne and I leafletted at Stern Grove last Sunday, July 22. It

felt so good! We passed out about 600 leaflets, but we sometimes has

more than one leaflet together, so I'll be conservative and say that

about 250 individuals actually accepted flyers from us.

250 people!!!!

Plus, we reached a lot more people than that with our message.

First of all, there were all the people who heard us, saw the flyers,

and said NO THANKS, I don't want to hear about that. Well, they DID

hear about it, in just that moment!

Second of all, each person we gave a flyer to was IN A GROUP. And

the group was proceeding together to Stern Grove where they would

spend an hour or two milling around at their picnic site, waiting for

the concert to start. I'm sure that some of them used the free time

to read this literature they had been handed, and most likely shared

the information and/or discussed it with their picnic companions.

It felt so good to be reaching so many people. Adrienne was a

wonderful leafletting companion and role model. She would go up to

people and say in the most cheerful way, " Are you a Meat Eater? " And

if they said " YES, " she's say, " Then you NEED to read this! " and hand

them an " Even If You Like Meat " flyer. If they said " NO, " she'd hand

them a WHY VEGAN. We also handed out the " What's Wrong with Dairy "

flyers from PETA or the " What's Wrong with Dairy and Eggs " flyer from

Action for Animals for people who were already veg.

Another thing Adrienne did was that she printed out 100 copies of a

really cool article from THE HINDU, which is an Indian newspaper.

The article was about what animals feel and how a compassionate

vegetarian diet is important. I can't find the article she used, but

here is a link to a related article in that newspaper:

http://www.hinduonnet.com/fline/fl1606/16060940.htm

It was interesting because lots of people saw " THE HINDU " peaking out

from behind all our flyers and actually asked us for it. Needless to

say, our 100 copies of the newspaper article were gone in a jiffy.

Another easy way I found of approaching people was just to say with

conviction, " Here's some GREAT information. It's very important. "

while holding out the flyer to an individual in the crowd going

past. This usually worked. At the beginning I was saying, " Would

you like some information on blah blah blah? " and this totally DID

NOT WORK.

It was quite enjoyable to work with Adrienne and to interact with so

many people. Both of us were very cheerful, and no one gave us any

rude remarks. Maybe the passers-by didn't have time to make rude

comments, as they were in a hurry to get past us and find their spot

in Stern Grove. On the other hand, while in a hurry, people seemed

OK with picking up reading material ... maybe because they knew they

had a long wait ahead of them. So it was a very nice place to

leaflet.

I think some leafletters may be needed for future Sundays at Stern

Grove. Contact Tammy to see if you can help!

Thanks for posting this report, Rachel! Kudos to you and Adrienne for

supporting this important outreach! Leafleting is a great way to get

information about vegetarianism and factory farming to people who otherwise

may not have this opportunity.

So far, we've leafleted at 4 Stern Grove Concerts, distributing information

to 2,000 people.

There are 5 more concerts in the season. We need 1 more person to help on

8/19.

There are many more opportunities to leaflet throughout the summer. If

you'd like to join us, please send me an email.

Cheers,

Tammy
