Hi folks!

Looking forward to seeing all of you this Independence Day. As coastsiders, we are especially delighted because Highway 1 is open this summer! Yea!! (Our fellow coastsiders will understand our glee since it was closed for 4 long months last year) The event (Vegan Food Party) officially starts at 1 pm but we'll be there circa 12:30 p.m. to set-up. We'll start eating around 1:30 pm.

What to bring:

- Any type of vegan dish (appetizer, entree, salad, etc) is fine; for each person, one dish that provides 6 generous servings is fine. For example, if you are a couple, you're welcome to bring a double-sized dish or be creative and bring two dishes! You're welcome to "animal test" with new vegan recipes on hungry volunteers, too :-)

One person asked how many people they should cook for. Our rule of thumb for the Vegan Food Parties is that each person should bring a home-cooked dish that provides 6 servings. Of course, with 30 or so people, we can't each try all the dishes, but if each person contributes their share with a dish with 6 servings, there will be ample food for everyone.

- Montara State Beach is a beautiful, pristine, undeveloped beach. We want to preserve our environment, so please bring a reuseable plate, cup, utensils, serving utensil, as well as your own napkin, personal beverage, and be prepared to pack out any garbage with you. And don't forget your ingredient list!

- Family & friends! Everyone is welcome, veg or non-veg, as long as they are bringing vegan food to share :-)

Also:

- Several of you have commented about bringing little ones, kids or dogs -- all are welcome! For small kids and active dogs -- please be aware that it is about 25 steps from the bluffs (where you park) down to the beach, and there is no lifeguard at Montara State Beach. So, please plan to be alert as there is a strong undercurrent at the ocean here.

- Games - yes, please bring if you like!

- If you're driving

- and have an extra card table that you can bring, please do, as we may have a large crowd based upon RSVPs

Note: Highway 1 can be busy in the summertime as there are several beaches between Pacifica to Half Moon Bay. Especially if you are coming via HMB, it may be slow traffic. So just plan accordingly or come abit early :-)

I love the second photo below... most people kinda lined up and we were all watching the ocean and talking and eating!

Cheers,
