I was recenlty in Half Moon Bay, visiting a wonderful PETA person. Her

house had the most gorgeous front yard of her entire street. When I

complimented her green thumb she was quick to deny having any green

digits--she said her yard just looks better than the others because she is

the only one on the street not trying to kill gophers. She planted all

her plants in underground wire baskets, which were cheap and easy to get

at local nurseries. Gophers still came in her yard but they couldn't eat

the plants she liked. Other folks on her street were using lethal methods

and heavy doses of cusswords, and their front yards looked pathetic.
