Guest guest
Dear Advocates for Animals: WE'VE DONE IT: A WHOLE YEAR OF VIGILS FOR ANIMALS! For your information, this June's vigil marked 12 consecutive months of vigils for animals at UCSF. So a big THANK YOU! to all who've attended the vigils over the past year, as well as prior years. It is not easy to make the effort to go out to UCSF, Parnassus Campus -- a notoriously cold and windy place -- and stand up and speak out for animals we may never see or hear. Yet we should be encouraged as the past fifteen months has seen unprecedented events take place, with the release of four monkeys from UCSF to Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary in Oklahoma. Also, remarkably, UCSF has significantly reduced its use of some animals since the vigils began in April 2003 -- as will be reported in the next Vigil newsletter. Speaking of the newsletter, it needs some editing. Some of you have already offered to help, and I thank you. I hope to schedule a Vigil Gathering to start the editing process next month. At the same meeting, I hope to include some discussion on how we can present the idea of banning the (ab)use of animals in lab experiments in the city to SF supervisors, as well as the general community. If you would like to come to our next gathering, please let me know of an upcoming Saturday or Sunday in July you could attend, as well as any time/date preferences. Bob O'Brien Bored stiff?
