Guest guest
Dear Animal Advocates, Companions, Lovers, Liberators and Vigilers! The next vigil/leafleting on behalf of animals (ab)used in laboratory experiments at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) will be held on the third Thursday of the month (as usual) - June 21, 4:30 PM at UCSF's Parnassus Campus - that is, 513 Parnassus Avenue in San Francisco. (Please see information on public transportation to UCSF's Parnassus Campus below.) Ban the Use of Animals in Lab Experiments: After much thought on this matter, I've decided I can't support the idea of banning the use of only certain species of animals in lab experiments. I'm afraid I have to consider sheep, pigs, Guinea pigs, mice and rats, et al. - not just monkeys, dogs and cats, as we (various vigilers/advocates for animals) were considering in recent discussions on the matter. I think we live in a time of such advanced technology that we can prove the fraudulent aspects of such experiments, as well as their cruelty to our fellow animals of the earth. So, I feel the next Vigil Gathering should include some discussion of the idea of how we present the idea of banning the (ab)use of all animals in lab experiments to the general community, as well as SF supervisors. If you can meet to talk on this important topic, please let me know of an upcoming Saturday or Sunday afternoon (say around 2 PM) in the coming weeks you could attend a meeting. Also, by the way, the draft of the next newsletter is nearly ready, and I need persons to help me edit it. So, anyone who has editing skills, please contact me if you want to help. Note Regarding Public Transportation to UCSF's Parnassus Campus: If you would like to take public transportation to UCSF, the San Francisco Muni buses #6 and #43 both go right by the vigil's venue on Parnassus Avenue; also you can take the N-Judah streetcar, get off at Carl & Arguello streets, and take the elevator (going up) within the UCSF facility to get to Parnassus Avenue. If you are coming from the East Bay, you can take BART, get off at any stop between Embarcadero and Civic Center in San Francisco, and then take an N-Judah streetcar going outbound (and follow directions above regarding N-Judah streetcar). Hope to see you at the next vigil - take care! Bob O'Brien Sick sense of humor? Visit TV's Comedy with an Edge to see what's on, when.
