San Francisco Restaurateur Honored as

‘Woman of Influence’

Millennium

Restaurant’s Ann Wheat among first to receive new Russell Sage

College Alumnae

Association award

 

TROY, N.Y.- Ann Wheat, owner of the

Millennium Restaurant in the Hotel California, is one of five accomplished

women to receive the prestigious new Woman of Influence award bestowed by the

Russell Sage College Alumnae Association (RSCAA).

“Russell Sage College

has celebrated women of influence since it awarded its first degree 90 years

ago,” said Mary Ann Oppenheimer, RSCAA President. “This new award

is a way to formally recognize the Russell Sage alumnae who positively and

substantially influence their professions, their communities and issues

affecting society at large. As one of the first recipients of the Women of

Influence award, Ann Wheat sets high standards for future honorees.”

Wheat will be honored at the RSCAA annual meeting during Reunion Weekend on

June 2.

Wheat

and her husband have been principal owners of Millennium Restaurant--known for

its innovative vegan cuisine--since 1994. Now 12 years later, Millennium has

been named “Favorite Vegetarian Restaurant in North

America” for five years in a row by the readers of the

national magazine VegNews.

Millennium has been the subject of articles in Bon

Appetit, Wine Enthusiast,

the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today and featured on The Food

Network. The restaurant has also published two cookbooks, The Millennium Cookbook and The Artful Vegan.

Wheat

graduated from Russell

Sage College

in 1957 and began her career as a physical therapist. She has an impressive

record of volunteer activities that draw on her physical therapy training,

including co-directing an activity program for residents of half-way houses and

working with environmental and cultural organizations in both Northern

California and Hawaii

to make resources and enrichment programs accessible for people with special

needs.

In

addition to Wheat, Russell Sage College Women of Influence for 2007 include an

internationally respected advocate for client-centered care in the health

professions; a pioneer in the study of the transplantation of cells,

tissues and organs from one species to another; a CIA intelligence officer; and a

leader in New York State’s Capital District.

I usually think Grocery Outlet stock only

super low quality food. When I stepped into their Redwood City store, I was amazed that they

had over 50 organic veg items for l/2 the price.

 

The items are located above the freezer

department. They have vegan soup, spaghetti sauce, salad dressing, soy

milk, soy ice cream etc.. (New items every day) Ask you local Grocery

Outlet manager to order organic vegan foods.

 

The Berkeley Grocery Outlet only had 6

good items. The Redwood City

store is the place to go. I think it is because it is located in a better

neighborhood.
