Guest guest
The ones you can't rescue, because they're on the other side of the highway or they're running away from you--probably due to past abuse from humans? The best medicine for that feeling is speaking up--loudly--and ASAP! Thank you to Nancy for organizing a trip to Sacramento. I'll be up there to speak as well, and we need more people. Less dogs and cats being born means less animals killed at the pound--period, end of story. It also means less animals abandoned by the side of the road. AB1634 (mandatory spay/neuter) is so exciting. It would mean that this country, finally, is going to do something about our massive overpopulation crisis. There are not enough homes for all the animals born each year, usually through careless and thoughtless breeding, cruel puppy mills, or dogfighting operations. We can't magically create more homes, but we CAN stop the flow of " unwanteds. " If you're worried about running out of dogs or cats one day, due to the nasty PR spins from breeders, relax. AB1634 makes exceptions for licensed breeders, service dogs, etc. This is a win-win-win situation. Less animals born only to be abused and killed, the state will save money, and people who feel they must breed still will. Nobody gives up anything, but the animals gain everything. Right now California legislators are being inundated with letters from individual breeders and the AKC--opposing the bill. They are winning, to be blunt. PLEASE call and write the lawmakers, but more than that--please show up on Wednesday. We need a huge group of people who care about animals, to show our capital that compassion is the majority rule. This is a chance to literally change history and change this country in a big way. Check out the websites below, arrange to take the day off, and join us on Wednesday. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to feel very good if I ignore this chance to create change and then have to watch puppy mills, backyard breeders and dogfighters cheering their victory of cruelty. If you don't go up with Nancy, check out the official website (cahealthypets): the organizers are offering free transportation to the hearing! www.cahealthypets.com <http://www.cahealthypets.com/> http://blog.peta.org/archives/2007/05/exciting_legisl_1.php go to Page 2 of " How Can I Help: " http://www.cahealthypets.com/pdf/How_can_I_help.pdf See you on Wednesday!
