Guest guest
Dalai Lama was in San Francisco April 27-29, and a team of veg activists handed out leaflets urging Buddhists to go veg.We handed out around 2,500 leaflets Friday - Sunday. The webpage on Buddhist VegetarianismRawVeg.info/BuddhistVegetarian is getting more visitors. I have added to it & improved it, to make it convincing to Tibetan-style Buddhists. The leaflet is downloadable from that page, or here.BuddhistVegLeaflet.pdfI think there's a very good chance that some people will be eating less meat now, maybe even going veg. I'm going to keep working on converting Buddhists to vegetarianism.Since Dalai Lama only comes to SF once every 5 years or so, I won't be organizing a team effort like this soon. Most of the Tibetan Buddhist events I go to are small enough that I can leaflet them myself. They're probably best done by someone who's a part of that scene. The only other large Buddhist events are when Thich Nhat Hanh comes to Berkeley. Someone who knows that tradition would be better to write a leaflet for that. General veg brochures would be good. He doesn't seem to be coming here this year, but we might do outreach next time he does.BayAreaVeg made this an official event, and featured it in the newsletter. Tammy offered helpful ideas and connected me with people. The support of the BayAreaVeg network was essential for the Buddhist vegetarian leafletting to happen. Most of the leafletting team came from this list. People in my own Tibetan Buddhist tradition weren't interested in volunteering for activism.I've emailed all the veg volunteers to thank them. This is a big thank you to to Tammy and Chris and BayAreaVeg for existing, and to all the people who were interested, or told their friends, even if you couldn't make it there.See you at a VFP.Jordan RothsteinRawVeg.infoFundRaisin.infoBodyTechnician.com
