Guest guest
From the Chronicle: Ubuntu, a Zulu word referring to communally sharing benefits, is the name for a vegetarian restaurant-in-progress at 1140 Main St. Located in a historic building near the Napa Opera House that previously housed a futon shop/furniture store, it is scheduled to open in late July or early August. It's the first restaurant venture for grape grower and Lion's Run Winery owner Sandy Lawrence, who is currently interviewing chefs from around the country. Lawrence came to know and admire the concept of ubuntu during 15 years of natural resource development work in South Africa. Some of the produce for the 130-seat restaurant will come from Lawrence's organic gardens in Napa, which are being planted by Jeff Dawson, formerly of Copia. " The concept is to have an all-green, organic, farm-to-table restaurant, " says Lawrence. It will have a beer and wine license, focusing on wines made from sustainably farmed grapes.
