Guest guest
Hi folks Bay Area Vegetarians veg/ar book club is reading an awesome book next month - the landmark The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. If you've ever wanted to learn more about all the great reasons to adopt a plant-based diet, this is a must read book -- for yourself, your family, your friends. We're looking for 3 more people to join us. Since I've been reading this book, I definitely have a renewed appreciation for my plant-based diet! Everyone is welcome to join us; you're not required to be vegan, just open-minded and happy eating only vegan foods at our discussion meetings. Just in the first 25 pages, I can tell this is going to be an engaging book to read and digest the facts it contains. - The United States pays more for health care than any other country in the world. - According to the American Cancer Society, men have 47% chance of getting cancer; women have a 38% chance. - One in 13 Americans has diabetes (p. 14), which can lead to blindness, limb amputation, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, & premature death - Heart disease kills 1 in 3 Americans (p. 15) - "The answer to the American health crisis is the food that each of us chooses to put in our mouths each day." - "In short, it is about the multiple health benefits of consuming plant-based foods, and the largely unappreciated health dangers of consuming animal-based foods, including all types of meat, dairy and eggs." - "Impressive evidence now exists to show that advanced heart disease, relatively advanced cancers of certain types, diabetes and a few other degenerative diseases can be reversed by diet." What: Book Discussion: The China StudyWhere: SF - MaggieMudd in Bernal HeightsWhen: 5/6/07 Sunday, 3:00 pmHost: Tammy [ http://www.bayareaveg.org/rsvp.htm?id=1467 ] Full Details: http://www.bayareaveg.org/events.php?EID=1467#1467 Thank you to Will for leading the discussion of our most recent book, Vegan Freaks, over excellent vegan pizza at Pizza Plaza. After The China Study, July's book discussion will be Free the Animals by Ingrid Newkirk . We'll be picking the September book at our next meeting, as well as a name for our book club -- maybe something more interesting than "the veg/AR book club" :-) Please drop me a line if you're interested in joining us for this discussion, have suggestions for books, or have any questions. We're a friendly, low-key group who just likes to read & learn over vegan food, so come join us. Cheers,Tammy The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of 'real food for real people,' you'd better live real close to a real good hospital. - Neal D.
