4/13, SF, Bay Area Veg Dinner at LAYONNA'S (not Bok Choy Garden)

Hi folks

We moved the dinner from Bok Choy Garden to Layonna's. One deciding factor was Layonna's is a larger restaurant, and they have nice big round tables with the spinny table tops. That really makes sharing converation & good food easy.

We've got a good crowd showing up, but there's room for a few more! So, please RSVP by 3 pm Friday at the latest. Walk-ins will be accomodated as space permits.

Something to think about: Is vegetarianism just a food choice or is it something more? And how do people make that connection?

Even though I don't go to these dinners because I work until 6:30 and couldn't

get anywhere until after 7 o'clock, let me chime in with my two cents: it's a

shame you moved the dinner from Bok Choy to Layonna's. I understand the

reasons, but I do believe that Bok Choy is hurting for business. Layonna's

opened up the new restaurant right across the street from Bok Choy, on the very

day the new owner of Bok Choy re-opened, without ANY notice by Layonna's that

they were going to do that. I know that business is business, but opening up a

Chinese vegan restaurant right across from another Chinese vegan restaurant, on

the very same day a new owner takes over, without walking across the street to

give advance notice of that, seems bad form to me. Maybe I'm missing something,

but ------

Not to mention that it has been mentioned several times on this list that people

have seen cockroaches at Layonna's -- I've never seen any at Bok Choy.

And it seems to me (but I could be wrong) that you've recently had one of these

dinners at Layonna's but nothing at Bok Choy recently. Since Bok Choy is under

new ownership, it would be helpful to have more vegans go there, try the food

out, and then post on this list. Again, they definitely could use the business.

They are nice people, and the owner seems very knowledgeable about food and

willing to accommodate special requests. And I'm sure they were looking forward

to tonight's group dinner.

Hopefully I'm not breaking any " rules of etiquette " by posting this. And no,

the owner of Bok Choy has no idea I'm posting this.

Hi folks!

In response to Nadine's recent statements about the Bay Area Veg dinner last nite:

Nadine, thanks for your honest feedback. I hope you'll allow me to share some as well: Okay... the big truth.... the best way for you (and other Bok Choy fans) to support Bok Choy is to organize a dinner.

In my event-organizing experience (~200 events), I'd say a restaurant dinner is a perfect introductory activity if you're new to hosting, haven't hosted in awhile, or work full-time (as I do)..

Even putting in a good word for them with an Ultimate Guide review is helpful. For example, 2 of the 3 most recent reviews comment upon an unfavorable smell.
