We found a pigeon with a hurt leg in the parking lot last evening.

We took her to Lindsay Wildlife Musuem and they said they only option

they have since she is a 'domestic' piegeon variety is to put her to

sleep.

She seems fine, but one leg seems injured.

Would anyone like to adopt/foster her? (we have zero experience with

birds)

We brought her back to see if she can recover by herself in a couple

of days. We think she must be from among the flock that live in this

neighborhood..

Right now she is resting in a largish cat crate with water and food.

The pamplet that Lindsay Musuem gave us indicates that we should

house her in a large 'aviary'. I am wondering if someone who has had

birds as pets has one of those that we can borrow? (we live in

Walnut creek area)

Any ideas also are welcome! (we know about the bird rescue place in

San Rafael)

As great as the Lindsay Wildlife Museum is, they don't deal with exotics which is not very useful for the individual animal that you're trying to help if it's not native.

I previously had some experience taking in a wounded pigeon, borrowing a bird cage, buying pigeon bird food (they need special food for optimal health) and trying to rehabilitate the animal. This became a bit difficult as I wasn't trained in wildlife rehabilitation so I searched around and found that Wildcare in Marin does take in exotics and nurses them back to health. The pigeon I found got the care it needed and was later set free.

Please remember that both Lindsay and Wildcare perform a much needed service and they always need money. They are both great places to donate money to, whether you bring in an animal or not.

Here's Wildcare's link -> http://form2.relevanttools.com/eis-cgi-bin/crpt?report=web & code=6228 & templ=http://www.wildcaremarin.org/pages/index.html
