Buddhist Vegetarian Leafletting at HH Dalai Lama SF teachings, April 27-29Calling all Buddhist Vegetarians:HH Dalai Lama will be in San Francisco, April 27-29, Fri-Sun. I would like to leaflet at his events, as people are waiting in line, entering, exiting, etc. We will encourage Buddhists to "Go Veg!"The time is right; things are changing. In the past, some famous highly-respected Tibetan teachers were ethical vegetarians, such as Patrul and Shabkar, but they have been a small minority. Most Tibetans got most of their calories from grain, but they ate meat if they could afford to.Now HH Karmapa is a vegetarian. He has come out strongly against meat-eating. He has urged anyone who considers themselves his followers to give up eating meat, buying meat, selling meat, and stop offering meat at ritual food offerings. He is requiring all his affiliated centers to stop buying, cooking or serving meat, and all his monks to stop buying meat.At HH Dalai Lama's Kalachakra teachings last year, only vegetarian food was served, and he made a speech in Tibetan urging Tibetans to move toward vegetarianism, and to stop the trade in wild animal skins and wild animal fur garments. (Unfortunately, Dalai Lama doesn't eat a vegetarian diet all the time, due to bad advice from his Tibetan doctors telling him he must still eat a little meat for health reasons.) Young Tibetans in the refugee communities in India & Nepal have started organizations to promote animal rights and vegetarianism, and HH Dalai Lama is supporting them. The teachings of Chatral Rinpoche on vegetarianism and saving animals from slaughter, have been translated and are about to be published in the West. I am trying to get good complete translations of Karmapa & Dalai Lama's statements, to use in leaflets, in emails, on websites, etc. Once this is done, the texts, leaflets, etc. can be made available for Buddhist vegetarian activists to download for use at other events, or in their email messages, etcBuddhism has never been a proselytizing religion. It would not be appropriate to try to convert vegetarians to Buddhism. But let's convert some more Buddhists to vegetarianism! Anyone who is interested in leafletting, or supporting this effort in any way, please contact me.Jordan Rothsteinrawveg.infoBuddhist vegetarianismveggiedharma.org shabkar.org----Dalai Lama SF Visitdalailamabay2007.comhimalayan-foundation.org------HH Karmapa Orgyen Trinle Dorje's statement against eating meat.shabkar.org/orgyen_trinle_dorjeInstructions on Not Eating Meat from HH Karmapa, Orgyen Trinle DorjeInstructions_On_Not_Eating_Meat.pdf Talk on Vegetarianism Karmapa XVIITalk_on_Vegetarianism_KarmapaXVII.mp3 The 17th Karmapa's Talk on Vegetarianism / Not-Eating- Meathttp://kagyumonlam.org/Monlam2007/veg.htmhttp://kagyumonlam.org/audio/Not eating meat1.zip kagyumonlam.org/audio/Not eating meat2.zip kagyumonlam.org/audio/Not eating meat3.zip chicagoktc.org/2007MarAprWeb.pdf
