"I need some help from the group. This may or may not be an appropriate topic but animal related messages do appear on the list."Hi Yvonne and everyone,For Yvonne and other folks who are new to the list, I wanted to respond to the question in Yvonne's recent post as to whether her recent post was an appropriate topic.

The SBAVEG list was established in October 2001 for the local Bay Area community to have discussions that are vegan/vegetarian/animal rights related, and to share related news, alerts, & events with a Bay Area focus. So, while a topic of Yvonne's cat's toiletry habits isn't necessarily on-topic per above, many of us have become veg*n because of our concern for animals, and we share our homes/hearts with animals, including adopted/rescued ones.

But most importantly, and this is where the relevance comes in, this was a request that would benefit one of our animal friends who was rescued from a shelter. In general, for individuals who need help with cats/dogs/rats they've rescued, or have questions about their cat's toiletry habits -- it's appropriate to post occasionally.

We just need to be mindful that these types of discussions don't overrun the list and become its primary focus, instead of vegetarianism/animal rights. Because, after all, there are many more lists dealing with animal rescue/adoption/animal behaviour than there are for veg*nism/animal rights issues.

And, for those folks on the list who do are not interested or are allergic to cat topics, thank you for your patience in using the delete key .

On a side note, this will be the 128,924th message posted to SFBAVEG.

Cheers,

Tammy

"This is my protest against the conduct of the world. To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
