Medicine temporarily closed-no longer vegan

I just discovered Medicine Restaurant is temporarily closed, and their

website says they will be serving seafood. Too bad they had to

compromise their values, it seemed like they did good enough business

being vegan. I'm going to tell them that next time I go.

I wonder what will become of the Vegan Outreach pamphlets they gave

Thea permission to distribute there, since it contradicts their new

menu?

Medicine had high high, overhead. Expensive rent in a large location,

more staff members than customer at times. At times, I counted 11

staff members working in the Restaurant.

I admit, the food was sensational, but another expensive overhead was

the cost of the ingrediants.

The restaurant insisted on using the most expensive rice, salad

greens, lemons etc..

The tofu came all the way from LA.

Their lemons are all the way from Japan. I admit, they are great, but

the average downtown worker might not be able to afford it.

Purple passion rice was good, but they don't provide the cheaper brown

rice.

I only ate at the restaurant 4 times. I had suggested to them use

cheaper ingrediants , especially for their Monk salad, which is my

favorite. (they could of used Romain or Argula instead Mesulin greens)

It also took them 1 year to change their selection of " Bento Box of

the Day " . It had the same Bento Box to choose from day in and day out.

It's too bad, it's not all veggie, it's a shame. They tried. By the

way, the owners are not veggie.

By the way there's a ZEN vegan restaurant that is doing extremely well

in NY. I wished Medicine could of been like that too.

This is really sad news. I wish them luck, but I'll not be going back.

Thanks for sharing.

I agree! They sold out the vegan and adding seafood! Yuk! I won't be going there either.

re the Vegan Outreach pamphlets at Medicine, I agreed to take over the job from

Thea, and had just ordered a huge box of them. I'd been waiting for the

restaurant to reopen so I could go there and restock -- I don't know what to

expect now, but I will report back to the list re: whether or not they allow me

to still leave Why Vegan brochures there.

This is BAD news that they're no longer vegan.

This happened before with Stoa's -- a veg restaurant in Palo Alto. They closed and relocated to a different location in Palo Alto, and re-opened with sea critters on their menu. Many veg people were disenchanted with them after this, too. They did close not long after ...

Perhaps people should let them know how they feel by leaving them a phone message. Their number is (415) 677-4405. It's good for them to know that they have disappointed a large group of people who previously supported them.
