Guest guest
John Marchant, the supervisor at Deer Hollow finally called me back. He said he is looking into allowing Pickles to go to the sanctuary but only if and when he gets another pig. He said he will work with a breeder to get another pig and can't say when that would happen - maybe in a month or so. He sounds evasive about timelines and I was a bit wary of his actual intent. I asked him if he was aware of the intense bonding pigs create and that they become extremely depressed when separated from their sibling. He said yes and so he was willing to work with the situation. (But of course not willing to do the humane thing right from the start. But hey, this guy profits form animals, buys from breeders, sends animals to slaughter and so, actually, this one piggy being released is a huge step into enlightenment for him.) I also asked him if he is assuming that the public would somehow revolt if told that both pigs were allowed to go to the sanctuary and for that "one month," there would be no pig at Deer Hollow. He kept on saying that there is an "expectation to have a pig on the farm, for people to view and classes to learn about." I said I understood that, and reiterated my question; he kept on saying over and over there was "an expectation".... so I finally thanked him and told him I would relay his message to the many people waiting to hear of his decision. Still need calls to keep the pressure on 650-903-6618 Elizabeth Guare This could become a high profile story and have everybody, even meat eaters, at least for a moment, act humanely! It's here!
