Indeed, six month old Relish was just about to be turned into pork products when a Silicon Valley electronics executive came to his rescue. For several months, David Lamar regularly visited the pigs at historic Deer Hollow Farm while running in Mountain View's Rancho San Antonio Park. From the time they were just piglets, he enjoyed watching the pair romp and

play as children do. That is why he was horrified when he found out that Relish was slated to be slaughtered, and therefore offered to buy him from the park so that the young hog's life could be spared. After two weeks of negotiating with park staff, the city council and making a call to the mayor, Lamar succeeded in convincing the town to approve the transaction. With aid from IDA, Relish will be sent to the Healing Heart Sanctuary in Arizona on Valentine's Day. But this ending is only half happy, because while Relish has escaped slaughter, he must leave his sister Pickles behind because the park refuses to sell her. They say she is too valuable to them as a breeder. To date, Lamar's efforts to keep the brother and sister pair together have failed.
