Guest guest
Dear Animal Advocates, Companions, Lovers, Liberators and Vigilers! The next vigil on behalf of animals incarcerated and exploited in laboratory experiments at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) will be held on the third Thursday of the month (as usual) - February 15, 4:30 PM (till about 6 PM). This will be the last vigil of the Year of the Dog (Chinese Calendar); the Year of the Boar (or Pig) begins on February 18. The vigil will be held at UCSF's Parnassus Campus at 513 Parnassus Avenue in San Francisco. (Please see information on public transportation to UCSF below.) UCSF sued again: Once again I have sued UCSF because of the university's delinquency in answering several records requests I had made pursuant to the California Public Records Act. Corey Evans, attorney at law, filed suit on my behalf just today, Friday, February 9, 2007. On the one hand, I feel lucky that I have acquired the services of Mr. Evans, a gentleman (in the truest sense of the word) and successful lawyer. Yet on the other hand, it is a shame that I have had to go to such ends to acquire information that I am entitled to by law. In any case, we will be attempting to acquire a variety of UCSF documents, including information on research that UCSF has contracted with the US Department of Defense to conduct, research protocols involving dogs at the university, medical records for dogs used in a cardiology research project, and UCSF's Annual Report of Research Facility for 2006. Corey Evans feels we have a good case, and success is likely; thus we may have these important documents by early spring. Time will tell. Note Regarding Public Transportation: If you would like to take public transportation to UCSF, the San Francisco Muni buses #6 and #43 both go right by the vigil's venue on Parnassus Avenue; also you can take the N-Judah streetcar, get off at Carl & Arguello streets, and take the elevator (going up) within the UCSF facility to get to Parnassus Avenue. If you are coming from the East Bay, you can take BART, get off at any stop between Embarcadero and Civic Center in San Francisco, and then take an N-Judah streetcar going outbound (and follow directions above regarding N-Judah streetcar). And please remember to be kind to yourself, as well as other animals. Hope to see you at the vigil - take care!
